The Mentor | #57 | AI
Each month, I share 3 things I’ve read on skills, careers, and personal development.
“The real question is not whether machines think but whether we do.” — B.F. Skinner
Everyone has an opinion on AI right now. Some believe it’s the biggest productivity unlock since electricity. Others see it as a threat to jobs, truth, or even humanity.
I’m not consumed by the extremes. I’m more interested in how we respond. Because whether you’re an optimist or a skeptic, the tools are already here. And what we do with them is up to us.
In life and business, you can be the driver of the bus or the passenger on the bus. The driver decides where to go, how fast to get there, and ultimately determines their future. The passenger is—well—the passenger. They go wherever the driver chooses.
Right now, you have a unique opportunity to be a driver in the AI era.
The tools are still early, the rules are still forming, and the people who choose to engage now—those who experiment, iterate, and learn—will be the ones charting the course.
So, how do you use it wisely? How do you pair your judgement with its speed? Your creativity with its scale?
We are entering a new era—one where artificial intelligence is reshaping the landscape of work, creativity, and problem-solving. AI will reward those who know how to work with it.
The question is: will you be the driver or the passenger?

The game on the field is about to change. It will happen sooner than you think.
2
Before hiring a person, you have to prove that AI can’t do the job.

This is just the beginning. AI is improving rapidly, and people are developing new uses all the time. This is a blueprint for meaningful engagement with AI.
Thanks, Rob. This post really encouraged me as I am currently considering making a proposal about AI Agent protocol to my executive team. Yes, we need to be the drivers, not the passengers. In fact, I hope we can become the drivers of a big bus - carrying many passengers (customers and partners), and the bigger the bus the better :-)
