The Mentor | #48 | Straining
Each month, I share 3 things I've read on skills, careers, and personal development.
‘It’s not about perfect. It’s about effort.’ - Jillian Michaels
Often, the most difficult thing to do is to find a new level in your own performance. And, there is always another level.
Why does this happen?
Denial- ‘I don’t need to find another level.’
Technique- ‘I don’t know how.’
Fear- ‘I don’t know how to do it.’
Success- ‘I’m satisfied.’
Any of those may be good reasons. And, there is certainly something to be said for being at peace or taking time to recharge. But, if you are not growing, you may be falling behind. Each day, you are either gaining share or losing share.
I find it gratifying to always be straining.
1
From Taylor Swift: “I realized every record label was actively working to try to replace me. I thought instead, I’d replace myself first with the new me. It’s harder to hit a moving target.”
2
‘Taking time off or varying the pace of their efforts was not just about relaxation or escape but also about improving the quality of their output over time.’
3
‘Fools learn from experience. I prefer to learn from the experience of others.’
以前、IBMがLenovoに売却する前に、IBM日本法人の知人が居たので懐かしい。
又、彼はよくボストン等出張していて、内情をよく話してくれた。
売却前だから、相当以前になるが、記憶者はいないかなぁ~?
